We once worked for a Christian Camp and the secretary shared  her dad’s favorite shipwreckedsaying,

Christians are the only people who shoot their wounded.

How quick we are to judge (full of pride and self-righteousness) how other Christians, parent.

More to the point, is when the apparent “fruit” of Christian parenting does not resemble unblemished, perfect ‘fruit’.

Christians either forget or have never experienced the persistence and cleverness of Satan, the embodiment of evil. The quickest path to destruction is when Satan can get a foot-hold in a marriage and a family AND if that family is in full-time ministry it can also be wounded.

Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. 1 Peter 5:8

It is no coincidence that the “PK” (preacher’s kid) phenomenon exists.

Who is the most vulnerable in a Christian family? Most likely it is the children . . .

and the debilitating pain of brokenness unleashes its destruction

in the child

in the mother

in the father

and even in the other siblings.

No one in the family is left unscathed.

Much like Job, well-meaning friends step in and offer their thoughts, but because they speak without wisdom (knowledge + experience) their efforts deepen the wound and twist the knife.

Unless you have walked with a child on the perilous journey through the teenage years and have experienced the heart-wrenching pain of that parent and child; please ask the family what you can do and always pray without ceasing for the ones we love.

The children of truly godly parents

(Edward Bickersteth)

Often, the children of truly godly parents,
are acquainted only with the theory of true
religion–but their hearts are far from being
influenced by it. When such leave home, and
family restraints are removed–they generally
yield to the corrupt inclinations of their hearts.
And if they even keep within the bounds of
, (which is not always the case) they
gradually adopt the attitudes, manners and
habits of the world.

But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, . . . For, by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast.(Eph 2:4-8)
