ancient-well1In the midst of the Samaritan woman’s daily tasks. Jesus met her.
(Part 1)

Although the past, the traditions cloud her mind and blind her spiritual eyes Jesus is patient and allows her time to think, still focused on her physical needs. (Part 2)

Jesus answered and said to her, Everyone who drinks of this water will thirst again; but whoever drinks of the water that I will hive him shall never thirst; but the water that I will give him will become in him a well of water springing up to eternal life.” John 4: 13, 14

Christ knows the wells of the world are deep and promising,

He knows that the physical wells of which she repeatedly returns to will never quench her spiritual thirst. No matter how many visits and no matter which earthly well.

He knows her spiritual thirst is greater than her physical thirst long before she does.

And He is prepared to satisfy it.

Jesus is the eternal source

for our internal thirst.  He will give her the Holy Spirit.

In this dry, arid region of the world Jesus used the Samaritan woman’s need for physical water to sustain life as an object lesson . . .

for her need for spiritual transformation . . .

 . . . and ours.
